"No lie is of The Truth" 1 John 2:21

The Word of God gives clear warnings concerning the strategy which the Devil will adopt to attack and destroy the Work of God. There is of course that constant frontal attack, the head on collision between the forces of hell and the forces of heaven. To attacks of Romanism, Communism, Ecumenism and Sectarianism are all such frontal attacks. Simple Christians can understand these, can see that satanic origin and can oppose them vigorously in the strength of the Lord.

There is however a more subtle strategy which the Devil employs especially against those who are successfully opposing his kingdom and exposing his falsehoods. This is the strategy of dividing the people of God so that they will become side-tracked from the main campaign and waste their time about strifes of words. Paul warned the elders of the church at Ephesus of the satanic weaponry. He said, "For I know this, that after my departing shall grevious wolves enter in among you not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them" Acts 20:29,30.

Over the years our Church has been faced from time to time with such satanic attacks. So great has been the witness of our church, by God's grace alone, against the End Time Apostasy that hell itself has been intent to smash it. If there were no Free Presbyterian Church in Ulster what a field day popery and ecumenism would have!

Now in Omagh we have demonstrated the truth of Paul's warning. Rev. Norman Green has arisen and sought to subvert the Omagh congregation and if possible [3] procure both its church property and manse for the use of a faction of his own. Thanks to the diligence and fidelity of faithful elders and the majority o the congregation the plan failed, the faction has now left and truth has been vindicated. The Bible says no lie is of the truth. The whole exercise in Omagh has been forwarded by a campaign of lying and falsehood. Mr. Green made a public, deliberate and unwarranted attack on certain families in the congregation. At a meeting of Session properly constituted and attended by Mr. Green, he promised to visit those families and put right this matter in which he himself acknowledged he had erred. Instead he did no such thing but went about trying to justify what he had himself acknowledged to be wrong.

He then wrote his resignation to Presbytery but thought he would occupy the pulpit of the church for a month no doubt using that month to seek to achieve his goal of obtaining the property of the church.

He refused to attend a Commission of Presbytery appointed to enquire into the matter. Although he swore at ordination to be subject to his brethren in the Lord he refused to even state his case and be heard in the court of the Church. He made lying accusations against brother ministers. When faced by them with these matters he was forced to withdraw and apologise.

The reason which was canvassed by his faction why he did not go to Presbytery was because it was stated that Rev. George Hutton did not get a fair trial and neither would Mr. Green. The falsehood of the accusation is easily established. Mr. Green took an active part in the Presbytery in the trial of Mr. Hutton and actually seconded the motion for Mr. Hutton's disciplining. "No lie is of the truth".

The underhand conspiracy and falsehood surrounding this whole matter are daily coming into the open. Some of those who left the congregation have now returned. The Presbytery have acted in accordance with the Church laws and one elder absent at the time of the crisis who refused to declare himself honestly on the issue has been suspended. The Church is determined to face lies with truth, falsehood with the Word of God and dishonesty with integrity and righteousness.

The Church in Omagh strengthened by the baptism will continue in the old paths of biblical evangelism, resisting and separating from all forms of apostasy and winning souls to Christ.

We bade farewell to Mr. Green and his faction in the words of the Apostle 1 John 2:19.

"They went out from us, but they were not of us for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."

Report on World Congress

The magnificent building of the Philippine International Convention Centre was chosen as the opening venue for the 1980 World Congress of Fundamentalists. Included among the many delegates attending the Congress were our Moderator, Dr. Ian Paisley, Rev. Fred Buick, the Minister of Port Lincoln Free Presbyterian Church, the Rev. David McIlveen, Minister of Sandown Free Presbyterian Church and Pastor David Cassells, Pastor of the Jock Troup Memorial Church, Glasgow.

The opening meeting was addressed by Dr. Paisley who as European Chairman of the Congress had been instrumental along with Dr. Bob Jones, Chancellor of Bob Jones University, for giving leadership to the Congress. In Dr. Paisley's opening message he based his remarks on that very blessed portion of God's Word, Ephesians chap. 6. Drawing the attention of the large congregation to the words, "Having done all, to stand. Stand therefore . . ." The Lord's servant emphasised the need for the Fundamentalist to ever be earnestly contending for the faith. This message was clearly appreciated by all who had the privilege of hearing it and it proved to be the spiritual spring board for what was to follow throughout the week of congress meetings.

After the Congress had been officially opened the delegates settled down to a set programme of meetings. Each morning at 9.00 a.m. they assembled for a season of [5] prayer. To many people this time proved to be the highlight of the Congress, as was also the case in the Edinburgh 1976. Before the delegates had the opportunity to engage in public prayer they had the joy of listening to some of God's favoured servants deliberate on the great and inexhaustible subject of Spiritual Supplication. With great challenge such topics as 'Intercessory Prayer' by Frank Bumpus, 'Prayer of Petition' by Victor Sadaka, 'Prayer of Praise' by Charles Flesher were discoursed upon with much profit and Spiritual benefit.

When the season of prayer was over the delegates were then called upon to deal with matters of special interest to the Bible believing fundamentalist. These topics ranged from, 'The Betrayal and Persecution of Bible Believing Christians' to 'Charismatic Heresy and its contribution to Ecumenical Unity.' To the delegates these panel discussions proved to be particularly helpful as opportunity for specific questions to be asked was given. Although the range of topics discussed was wide and varied yet there protruded through the need to stand firmly and uncompromisingly against the evils of the Church of Rome. In nearly all the subjects considered the Rev. Wilson Ewin, has been jailed, manhandled, and threatened with death for his stand for truth, underlined this theme when he spoke about his own experiences in the province of Quebec, Canada. A missionary to Rome, the Rev. William Standridge exhorted the delegates to be ever vigilant concerning the Church of Rome, reminding them that Rome had not changed and that there could be no ground for compromise with such a devil motivated system. The evils of Communism were presented to the Congress by Dr. Alexander De Chalandeau whose journeys behind the Iron Curtain had provided him with valuable information concerning [6] the plight of the Christians in that part of the World. His message was very timely and was deeply appreciated by all who were in attendance. The evening session consisted of appointed speakers dealing with subjects that underlined the solemn responsibility of every Fundamentalist to the Word of God.

Dr. Jack Watters and Dr. John McCormick spoke on the Authority of Fundamentalism stressing that the sole authority of the fundamentalist is the Word of the Living God.

Rev. Fred Buick and Dr. Talmadge Spence stressed the need for Scriptural Purity in Fundamentalism whereas Dr. Robert Rhodes and Dr. Monroe Parker handled the subject dealing with the verities of fundamentalism.

The Congress in the Philippines had been a time of blessing and encouragement and many of the messages delivered and the sessions of prayer entered into will long remain in the memory of the delegates present.

Outside the stipulated times of the services the delegates had the opportunity of talking to the people of Manila, and what a joy it was for them to share in fellowship with the Philippino Believer. Assurances of prayer were sought by many of the local Christians, especially in the light of the terrible upsurge of violence in their Country. The unsaved were also spoken to as delegates mingled in the streets and shops with the inhabitants of Manila. In fact Dr. Paisley used the occasion to leave with the shop assistants and taxi drivers a very blessed verse in the Gospel. As he left them he urged them to remember the words of Acts 4:12 'neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be Saved.'

Another important happening took place during the Congress meeting in Manila. Dr. Bob Jones jun., Dr. Bob Jones III and Dr. Paisley were invited to meet the President of the Philippines. President Marcus was anxious to learn from God's servant about the World Council of Churches and its sinister plots to undermine the stability of Governments. From his reported reaction he was clearly impressed by what information had been given to him by the leaders of the Congress and he valued their prayers for wisdom and understanding.

The second stage of the Congress was held in the Singapore Conference Centre, Singapore. Here a similar format of programme was used to that in Manila, although the subjects were different. After Dr. Paisley had opened this part of the Congress it was evident that the Lord's blessing was once more to attend the preaching of the Word. The spirit of prayer evident in Manila, was carried over to Singapore an to the encouragement of the delegates the meeting continued with the same interest and enthusiasm. The prayer times were introduced by some of [7] God's servants bringing a special exhortation on a particular aspect of prayer. Rev. David Cassells spoke on 'The Promises of Prayer' while on the concluding morning of the congress, Dr. Bill Hall delivered a stirring message on 'Imprecatory Prayer'.

In the evening services the wide spectrum of Fundamentalism was once more considered. Dr. William Hoffman spoke on the 'Resurgence of Fundamentalism' while the Rev. David McIlveen investigated 'The Future of Fundamentalism.' As the Congress drew to a close, Dr. Weniger Jnr. and Dr. Myron Guiller examined 'The Spiritual Militancy of Fundamentalism.' The concluding message of the 1980 Congress of Fundamentalists was to be delivered by Dr. Bob Jones, Chancellor of Bob Jones University but because he was feeling unwell it was left to Dr. Jones III to bring to an end what all of the delegates considered to be a very profitable and helpful congress. Clearly there is a reviving of Fundamental Truths throughout the World and God in His infinite mercy is raising up a people for His own Glory. It is the prayer of many throughout the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster that God will be pleased to use us as an instrument of blessing and that we 'having done all to stand, will stand therefore.'


Two well-known Fundamentalists, Rev. Dr. Paisley and Rev. Dr. Bob Jones, called on President Marcos in Malacanang yesterday and reaffirmed their stand against violence and terrorism.

In Manila to attend the World Congress of Fundamentalists which ended yesterday at the Philippine international Convention Center, they denounced some religious groups for using churches "as a flag to cover up an army of conspirators and violators."

Dr. Paisley is a Conservative member of the British Parliament from Northern Ireland and also of the Parliament of the European Community. He is the moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster.

Dr. Jones is the American chairman of the World Fundamentalist Congress and chancellor of the Bob Jones University in South Carolina, the biggest Christian university in the world and the citadel of Biblical Christianity.

Paisley said the congress seeks to sustain the authority of the Bible as the word of God against those who would question its infallibility.

He said the World Council of Churches has "lined itself up across the world with various guerrilla movements and terrorist groups" to overthrow legitimate governments.

Paisley and Jones told the President that certain groups, such as the Presbyterian church in Northern Ireland and the Salvation Army, have withdrawn from the World Council of Churches.

Expressing regret over various religious groups splitting up over violence, the President told his guests: "How can anyone justify violence as Christian? I cannot understand that".

He said it was difficult to deal with terrorists and Marxists in the disguise of priests and nuns.

The right to political dissent and free worship usually invoked by Marxists and terrorists are the "two subterfuges that cover up many crimes and many sins" the President said.

He said government could not freely move against subversives operating under the guise of religion because it would be charged with denying religious freedom and violating human rights.

On the other hand, he said, terrorists would even deny the "right of the state to counteract violence," and to maintain law and order in society.

A Statement by the Bible Fundamentalists of Australia

At the conclusion of the National Congress of Fundamentalists held in Sydney, Australia, November 18-23 1980, the foundation members of the Bible Fundamentalists of Australia (B.F.A.) have unanimously adopted the following resolutions stressing obedience to the Scriptures.

Regarding the Lord's Day

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia re-affirm our unswerving allegiance to the historical fact of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the sanctifying of the day of resurrection, the first day of the week, for the public worship of Almighty God and the preaching of the eternal Word.

1. We condemn all those who would seek to turn this Holy Day into a holiday.

2. We support those who oppose the encroachment of business and pleasure into the sanctity of the Lord's Day.

3. We condemn those governments which deny to Christian people their inalienable right to worship on the first day of the week and rest from their secular labours.

4. We exhort the Fundamentalists of Australia to live righteously, soberly, and godly in this evil world, showing to all an example by refraining on the first day of the week from such worldly employments and recreations as are on other days lawful.

Regarding the Scriptures

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia -

1. Believe that all Christians should be aware of the devilish origin and deception of many modern Bible versions and self-styled "translations" which are being foisted upon the reader disguised as the true Word of God. Among such perversions of Holy [17] Scripture the B.F.A. would identify the following:

a. Good News for Modern Man (Today's English Version).
b. The Living Bible.
c. The Revised Standard Version.
d. The New English Bible, and others.

2. Notes with great concern that some of these perverted versions of the Scriptures are being distributed by the British and Foreign Bible Society and its associates. The B.F.A. calls upon Christians to withdraw financial support from such societies.

3. Recommends the use and distribution of only those versions and translations which have been faithfully translated by those committed to the verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures and recognises the unique and special place of the Authorised (King James) Version in the English-speaking world.

Regarding Evangelism and Missions

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia declare that unbiblical evangelism and missions have been and are being conducted by -

a. the Romanists through Jesuitry and their church auxiliaries;
b. the Ecumenists through the social gospel, secularization, dialogue, syncretism and political activism;
c. the "New Evangelicals" through the cultural mandate and Billy Graham type of compromising ministries.

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia deplore and condemn the above kinds of unbiblical evangelism and missions, and call upon all born again Christians to separate from such associations and to vigorously implement our Lord's "great commission" through the preaching and practising of the whole counsel of God (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 20:27), resulting in the establishment of fundamental Bible-believing churches.

Regarding Women in Scripture

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia resolve -

1. That the adoption of the ordination of women to the ministry is precluded by the Word of God (I Timothy 3:2, 2:12);

2. That we totally repudiate as unbiblical and anti-Christian the aims and activities of the women's liberation movement which rob women of their God-given privileges and undermine the purity and discipline of the Christian home (2 Peter 2:19);

3. That we uphold the Biblical distinction between the sexes which assign to the man and the woman their respective and complementary roles in society, the church and the home. This distinction should be obvious in [18] dress and appearance; and we, therefore, reject all unisex trends in dress and hair styles. We believe that the Christian's appearance must be characterised by modesty, as an eloquent testimony against the permissiveness of this apostate age. (Deut. 22:5; 1 Cor. 11:5-10; Rev. 9:8; 1 Tim. 2:9, 13).

Regarding the Ecumenical Movement and Church of Rome

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia declare that the Ecumenical Movement, promoted jointly by the World Council of Churches and the Church of Rome, is Satanic in origin and objective. We point out that the declared aim of the World Council of Churches is to promote one "eucharistic fellowship", of which fellowship the Church of Rome has declared that "other Christians" just affirm that they believe "the doctrine of the eucharist (the Mass) as taught in the Catholic Church" (October 17th 1973).

We repudiate not only the eucharist of the Church of Rome, but also the blasphemies, the idolatries, and superstitions of Roman Catholicism, all of which anger God and damn the soul.

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia honour and exalt Jesus Christ, the Great King and only Head of the Church, as the all-sufficient sacrifice for sins once for all offered on Calvary's cross for our salvation, and we call on all born again believers everywhere to separate from the apostasy of the Ecumenical Movement.

Regarding International Communism

The Bible Fundamentalists of Australia -

1. record their alarm at the rapid spread of anti-God communism throughout the world;

2. Deplore the efforts of leaders of so-called Christian nations to achieve detente with Russia and Red China while Christians are being persecuted there for their faith;

3. Protest against the brutalities practised by communists to suppress civil and religious liberty thereby robbing Bible-believers of their right to worship God according to their conscience;

4. Applaud the efforts being made to expose the persecution of the Jews but lament the lack of efforts to help the Christians who are equally oppressed;

5. Call on the leaders of communist nations to liberate those who have been imprisoned for their faith and to cease their oppression of those who desire to practice what they believe;

6. Castigate the World Council of Churches which has permitted its platforms to be used as sounding boards for those who are the agents of international [19] communism and the United Nations for their lack of concern in these matters.

We the members of the Bible Fundamentalists of Australia are pledged to "contend for the Faith" and to "stand for the fundamentals" upon the "foundation which cannot be moved", whatever the cost.

RESOLUTIONS World Congress of Fundamentalists November 12-19, 1980 Manila - Singapore



1. Maintains an immovable allegiance to the inerrant, infallible, and verbally inspired Bible;

2. Believes that whatever the Bible says, is so;

3. Judges all things by the Bible and is judged only by the Bible;

4. Affirms the foundational truths of the historic Christian Faith;
The doctrine of the Trinity
The incarnation, virgin birth, substitutionary atonement, the bodily resurrection and glorious ascension, and the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ
The new birth through regeneration of the Holy Spirit
The resurrection of the ungodly to final judgment and eternal death
The fellowship of the saints, who are the body of Christ
The resurrection of saints to life eternal;

5. Practises fidelity to that Faith and endeavours to preach it to every creature;

6. Exposes and separates from all ecclesiastical denial of that Faith, compromise with error, and apostasy from the Truth; and

7. Earnestly contends for the Faith once delivered.


Rejecting the principle of inclusivism, the World Congress of Fundamentalists re-affirms the historic separatist position by observing Scriptural;

1. Separation from doctrinal schismatics and apostates;

a. "Mark them" (Philippians 3:17-18)
b. "Avoid them" (Romans 16:1718)
c. "Identity them" (I Timothy 1:20; II Timothy 1:15; 4:14)
d. "From such turn away" (II Timothy 3:5)
e. "Reprove them" (Ephesians 5:11)
f. "Have no fellowship with them"(Ephesians 5:11)
g. "Be not unequally yoked together with" (II Corinthians 6:14-16)
h. "Come out from among them" (II Corinthians 6:17)
i. "Reject" (Titus 3:10)

2. Separation from disobedient saints and appeasers;

a. "Note that man" (I Thessalonians 3:14)
b. "Withdraw yourself"(II Thessalonians3:6)
c. "Have no company with"(II Thessalonians 3:15)
d. "Rebuke them sharply" (Titus 1:13) [20] 
e. "Admonish him as a brother" (II Thessalonians 3:15)
f. "Count him not an enemy" (II Thessalonians 3:15)
g. "Keep not company" (I Corinthians 5:11)
h. "With such an one not to eat" (I Corinthians 5:11)

And while adhering to this separatist position, that we "let brotherly love continue" (Hebrews 13:1)


The World Congress of Fundamentalists declares its opposition to the following forms of apostasy and compromise;

1. LIBERALISM/MODERNISM, that theological position which rejects any or all of the Bible as the Word of God, denies the supernatural elements of the Bible as the miraculous character of the person and work of Christ, magnifies the false doctrine of the universal Fatherhood of God and common brotherhood of man, with an emphasis on the social gospel as opposed to the New Testament gospel of grace to the individual. We view liberalism/modernism as not a variant form of Christianity, but as a false gospel, under the curse and condemnation of Almighty God.

2. NEW EVANGELISM, that theological movement of neutralism affecting Christianity, designed to close the gap between fundamentalism and Neo-Orthodoxy, which changes the Biblical command of separation to one of infiltration, which stays in various apostate denominations at the price of being identified with apostasy and unbelief, which is enamoured of unbelieving scientific scholarship, and which is given to the "dialogue" which means to them conference with liberals to learn more of doctrine, with the charismatics to learn more about the Holy Spirit, with the cults to broaden their fellowship and with Jews, Roman Catholics and those of other faiths for possible religious benefits.

3. NEO-ORTHODOXY, that inconsistent, and illogical contemporary movement of theological deception also called "Cris Theology" or "Barthianism", which is a reaction away from liberalism but which constitutes a failure to return to the Historic Christian faith, emphasizing a subjective authority of the Bible, using an evangelical terminology while embracing the destructive critical conclusions of modernism with respect to the Bible.

4. ECUMENICAL EVANGELISM, the child of new evangelism, which yokes believers and unbelievers in evangelistic endeavour, with the rationale that co-operative evangelism is expedient to reach the masses with the Gospel message.

5. THE ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT, an attempt to bring together the various world religions, falsely applying to this amalgamation of truth and error, the words of Christ, "That they all may be one" (John 17:21).

6. PSEUDO-FUNDAMENTALISM, which is new evangelicalism in embryonic form, and which comprises historic fundamentalism by one or all of the following:

a. Failure to expose and oppose ecumenical evangelicalism new-evangelicalism, and the charismatic movement;
b. Failure to separate in their programs from men who are involved in false ecumenism, liberalism, new evangelicalism, apostate denominationalism and charismatic circles.

7. THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT, which is a counterfeit of true Christianity, and as an inclusivistic movement yoking together Roman Catholics, liberals, and new evangelicals and others, has become a catalytic agent for a one-world church of the Anti-christ, a movement which is subjective and experience-centred rather than objective and Scripture-centred.


Believing that it is Scriptural to identify men and movements that are involved in apostasy and compromise, the World Congress of Fundamentalists warns all Bible-believing fundamentalists of:

1. The liberalism/modernism and false ecumenicity of the World Council of Churches and its associated bodies, denominational world alliances, the Lausanne continuing committee, Evangelical Alliance and the World Evangelical Fellowship.

2. The new evangelicalism, in educational institutions as illustrated by Wheaton College, Fuller Theological Seminary, the California Graduate School of Theology, the London (England) Bible College; new evangelicalism in campus movements such as Campus Crusade, Young Life, Youth for Christ, and Intervarsity Fellowship: new evangelicalism in publications such as "Christian Life" and "Christianity Today"; and new evangelicalism in missions such as Wycliffe Translators, World Vision, World Literature Crusade, Christian Literature Crusade, and the pioneer faith missions which compromise with unbelief, such as TEAM, Overseas Missionary Fellowship (formerly China Inland Mission), African Inland Mission, Latin American Mission and others.

3.Ecumenical evangelism as exemplified in crusades conducted by men such as Billy Graham, Luis Pauau, Leighton Ford, James Robinson and Billy Kim. [21]

4. The charismatic movement as manifested in ministries such as Pat Robertson and the 700 Club, Jim Bakker and the PTL Club, IOGOS Publishers, Melodyland School of Theology, Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship, Oral Roberts, Rex Humbard and T. L. Osborn.

5. Pseudofundamentalism as manifested in the ministries of W. A. Criswell, Holland London, Jerry Falwell, Elmer Towns and Paul B. Smith.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists believes that humanism as set forth in the Humanist Manifesto of 1933 and 1973 constitutes a new religion, that humanism believes that traditional, dogmatic and authoritarian religions which place the revelation of God above needs and experiences do a disservice to the human species, that humanism begins with humans, not God, and considers promises of eternal salvation or fear of eternal damnation both illusionary and harmful, which looks favourably upon abortion, divorce, and free sexual expression, including the rights of individuals to pursue their sexual proclivities (including homosexuality), which makes Deity irrelevant and man central and autonomous, is a false religion, and therefore we pledge ourselves to do everything possible to expose and oppose humanism in whatever form it takes.


While recognising that great pastors, missionaries, evangelists and revivalists, such as Charles Haddon Spurgeon, William Carey, George Whitefield, and Jonathan Edwards aligned themselves with the theological system known as Calvinism, we reject a hyper-Calvinism which negates or eliminates human responsibility in either the proclamation or reception of the Gospel messages as destructive to a Biblical evangelism which would offer the Gospel freely to all men. On the other hand, we equally deplore and condemn hyper-Arminianism which refuses to recognise the total corruption of fallen man including his will and by high pressure techniques and worship of statistics would make man his own saviour, thus denying the free grace of Almighty God and the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit in the salvation of the soul. Calvinists and Arminians though they differ on some points of interpretation, are agreed on the great fundamentals of the faith and should join together in the battle against the end time apostasy.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists affirms its belief in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments (66 canonical books) as the verbally and plenarily inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God in the autographs, and rejects the books known as the Apocrypha as the inspired Word of God. We condemn paraphrases such as "The Living Bible" and "Good News for Modern Man" and the products of unbelieving and liberal scholarship such as the "Revised Standard Version" and the "New English Bible", and recognise the unique and special place of the Authorised (King James) Version in the English speaking world and also, we reject the modern fad of exalting any version or translation to the position held uniquely by the original writings.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists takes seriously the command to world evangelization, and urges that we intensify our efforts to make possible the presentation of the Gospel message to all peoples in the fulfilment of the presentation of the Gospel message to all peoples in the fulfilment of the Great Commission, while at the same time avoiding compromise and inclusivism in our presentation of the Good News of the Gospel of Christ.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists rejects the trend to gimmickry as a means of promoting the Gospel ministry, the desire for "bigness", the justifying of every method as long as souls are saved, and urges a return to seeking God's glory, the convicting work of the Holy Spirit, and genuine repentance and conversion, lest our churches be filled with a "mixed multitude" with carnal appetites rather than a hungering and thirsting for righteousness.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists deplores and condemns all moral aberrations, including pornography, prostitution, sexual exploitation, homosexuality and lesbianism as being under the curse and condemnation of Almighty God, and views all attempts to justify, condone or legitimatize these as an affront to a Holy God and a denial of the plain teaching of Scripture. Further, we go on record as declaring that abortion is murder.


Because false cults such as Seventh Day Adventism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Unity, Christadelphianism, Armstrongism and Christian Science continue their world-wide ministries with great zeal, denying in part or whole the Deity of Christ, the eternality of Hell, and salvation by grace through faith, the World Congress of Fundamentalists repudiates their unbiblical teachings and scripturally designates them as wolves in sheep's clothing. We call for exposure of their errors and encourage their evangelization. [22]


Believing that the continuing conflict in Northern Ireland is of world-wide concern and that a conspiracy is at work to conceal the real truth of the position of the suffering Protestant majority in the Province at the hand of the Roman Catholic I.R.A., this World Congress of Fundamentalists goes on record in support of their brethren in Northern Ireland and believes that the democratically expressed will of the people through the ballot box should be upheld and implemented. It believes that not only are the lives and happiness of the people at stake, but also the freedom of fundamental Christianity. It condemns the Carter administration's act of embargoing the supply of arms to the police force in Northern Ireland for use against the terrorists and calls on the President-elect to see that this act of injustice against an ally be immediately reversed.


The Scriptures clearly teach that our Lord Jesus Christ arose from the dead on the first day of the week, that the Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost the day after the Sabbath and that the early Church worshipped on the first day of the week - the Lord's Day.

Therefore, the Congress calls upon its constituency to sanctify the Lord's Day, to resist every effort to secularize the same and to be faithful in maintaining it as a Holy Day and not as a holiday by diligent attendance at the Lord's house and dedication to the Lord's service.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists expresses solidarity with Bible-believing Christians around the world who are being persecuted or betrayed by governments or religious groups because of their faith. The Congress condemns the alarming encroachment of governmental and religious forces on the freedom of education of Bible-believers through restrictive and discriminatory action against Christian educational institutions under the guise of the application of the law and urges all such forces to desist from such action and to allow Bible-believers to exercise their rightful freedom to worship and serve God.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists condemns the current trend towards rebellion, anarchy and oppression on the world scene. It affirms its support for the rule of law, based on the precept and example of the Word of God, which takes into consideration the rights of both the individual and of society.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists recognises that it is impossible for anybody to bring peace to the Middle East and, it is presumptuous and blasphemous for any man to believe that he can achieve that, for that can only be achieved when the Lord Himself comes. The Congress, however, condemns terrorism, bombings and torture whether carried out by the P.L.O or by the Begin government. The Congress urges all God's people everywhere to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, in accordance with the Word of God (Ps. 122:6) and to realise that reconciliation can only be effected by the declaration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists rejects the sensual trends of the religious music today because it contradicts and nullifies the spiritual emphasis of the preaching and teaching ministries of the church. We oppose the superficial and carnal fruit produced by this music in the lives of both those who perform it and those who are exposed to it. We oppose all such music that incorrectly places the emphasis upon the physical instead of the spiritual and that has roots in the world instead of the Bible.


WHEREAS the past five years have seen a growing pressure on Christians towards greater co-operation and fellowship between Catholics and Protestants, and

WHEREAS recent Popes have begun calling Protestants "separated brothers" rather than heretics, and the Roman Catholic church, at various levels, has begun co-operating in various ecumenical endeavours, and

WHEREAS Protestant ecumenists have constantly worked to include the Roman Catholic Church in their activities, as a sister church, and

WHEREAS numerous evangelicals, or "neo-evangelicals", have begun co-operating in evangelistic campaigns and other inter-faith movements, and

WHEREAS many sincere Bible-believing Christians, pastors and educators are becoming confused by conflicting reports as to the large number of so-called born-again evangelical Roman Catholics,

BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE HEREBY DECLARE that the Roman Catholic Church, as have declared the Reformers and thousands of other Christians before and since the Reformation, while it professedly sustains dogmas that resemble Biblical doctrine such as the virgin birth of Christ, and His burial and resurrection, yet at the same time depending upon a system of sacerdotalism and sacramentalism which is totally contrary to Biblical truth, can not be considered as a true Christian church and, much [23] less, can it be considered, as it claims, to be the only true and complete church. It is history's greatest perversion of the Christian Faith and its central doctrine of the Mass a hideous blasphemy of the finished work of Christ on the Cross.

DEPLORE the confusion and compromise being fostered by those who, while professing to be Protestants or evangelicals, are erasing the lines of separation between Biblical truth and diabolical error and between Roman Catholicism and fundamental Biblical truth, and

ENCOURAGE all true, Bible-believing Christians to increase, rather than decrease, plans and efforts for the evangelisation of the millions of Roman Catholics who are still living in superstition and error, scattered in every country of the world, and

INSIST that pastors, evangelists and all Christians at every opportunity teach Roman Catholics who may be illuminated by the Holy Spirit and by the preaching of the word, to abandon the Roman Catholic Church and to fellowship in true New Testament churches, according to the clear teachings of the Word of God.


The World Congress of Fundamentalists commends the vision of Dr. Bob Jones and Dr. Ian Paisley in promoting this World Congress, and urges other members of this type as an expression of a worldwide fellowship of Biblical fundamentalists and as a protest of all movements of inclusivism. We especially thank the Philippine International Convention Center, both executives and the entire staff, for their fine co-operation and generous help over and above contractual obligations.


Whereas, Marxian Socialism has proved to be the greatest failure of the 20th century, while professing to be the superior society destined by history to triumph, but which cannot feed itself, and is only saved from collapse by the indefensible support of the so-called imperialistic nations through their money, food grains and willingness to allow open subversion, and

Whereas, the three basic doctrines of communism (there is no God, man is an animal and everything is economically determined) requires the serious attention and condemnation of every right thinking Christian leader the world over, and

Whereas, basic human rights are practically non-existent in the Soviet Union, China and their satellite allies, producing history's most monstrous system of slavery, and

Whereas, we can almost hear in Manila the sound of the tramping of the marching millions living under Communism trying by all means and at any cost to escape into Hong Kong, through the Berlin Wall, and any other possible points of entry into the free world, and

Whereas, the so-called "Liberation Theology" which has emerged in the Latin World and spread widely through liberal institutions is brazenly endeavouring to equate Marxism with radical Christian social action as the fulfilment of the Christian faith, and

Whereas, the left-wing trends among neo-evangelical is seriously impacting Christendom, such as:

Dr. Stanley Mooneyham of World Vision calling Chinese communism the work of the Holy Spirit;

Dr. Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ claiming that Christianity and Communism share a common ethos;

Dr. Billy Graham's reckless statements favourable to Communist propaganda in Eastern Europe has indicated a vast change from a former anti-communist, drawing favourable comment from the Communist Daily world;

Dr. W. A. Criswell of Dallas in honouring alleged KGB agents in his pulpit (Zhidkov and Bychkov) posing as ministers from First Baptist Church of Moscow, and giving support to the leftists-leaning Baptist World Alliance, and

Dr. Tom Skinner, prominent black leader, who called Jesus Christ a gutsy little revolutionary with dirt under his fingernails;

Dr. Vernon Grounds favouring application of Mao's principles to Christian action Westmont College, honouring a whole lot of left-wing speakers, such as David Ellsberg, Father Malcolm Boyd, playwright Arthur Miller, black Panther chaplain Earl Neill, Edward Keating, and others, and

Whereas, Bible-believing Christians must view Communism as total depravity, with no redeeming social values of commendable aspects, requiring Christian leaders to first understand it, and then to totally reject it, and

Whereas, the Reagan political victory for the presidency of the United States, bringing the elimination of so many left-wing liberals in the U.S. Senate, and drastically altering the whole approach of the free world toward Communism, provides an unparalleled opportunity to strike a telling blow against the forces of oppression and aggression;

Therefore, Be it Resolved, that we encourage the governments of the free world to develop and maintain strong defence forces against ambitious, expansionist Communist programs, and take a firm anti-communist stand, and

Be it Further Resolved, that preachers everywhere mount a determined offensive against the philosophy of dialectical materialism in the realm of theory as well as against all forms of communist terrorism as it works out in political reality, and [24] Be it Further Resolved, that the myths of Communism be exploded, their deceit unmasked, and their hypocrisy exposed, as they demand civil rights everywhere else while denying this to all peoples under their military and psychological control, and

Be it Further Resolved, that the pro-communism and ecumenical forces of the World Council of Churches, National Council of Churches, and other regional organisations of the apostasy, be repudiated, such as their continued support of world-wide subversion of anti-communist governments in the third World.


This World Congress of Fundamentalists welcomes the messages of Christian greetings received from the American Council of Christian Churches and the British Council of Protestant Christian Churches.

We thank God for the stand of these councils and all other believers who contend for the faith and practice separation from apostasy and reciprocate these greetings with love to all the brethren.

"Stand Therefore" Ephesians 6:14

This portion of scripture is for the evil day, (verse 13) "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand". How appropriate for us in this present hour. Brethren, the days are evil. Satanic evil, worldly evil, fleshly evil have come in like a flood. Nations are overwhelmed with evil. Cities are overwhelmed with evil. Churches are overwhelmed with evil. Individuals are overwhelmed with evil. Society is shot through with evil. Evil thinking, evil speaking and evil doing. We face now a combination of evil, a confederacy of evil unparalleled in world history. The evil day of all days is upon us. Satan is quite aware his days are short. He is making his grand slam against the church. He is taking his final fling against the people of God. What shall we do? We will answer the question by asking another. What are others doing? Some are making peace. They have discovered 'that the Devil is not really so bad as he is painted; that infidelity is not really so bad as it has been portrayed; that the results of infidelity in the church as modernism, liberalism, ecumenism and all forms of unbelief are not really satanic in their origin', they are a point of view from which, we are told, we all should learn, and those that hold them are not enemies of the Gospel but rather 'brothers in the faith' and so they are surrendering and so they are making peace. God is sending them a strong delusion that they might believe the lie. Some are compromising in order to survive, giving in here a little and there a little, telling us that where and what they have surrendered are not important things; that we can afford to be less narrow and more liberal, less like the first [25] generation fundamentalists, we have more standing, better standing, better scholarship than they. We have come further along the road of learning. Some are withdrawing. They argue that their withdrawal is a strategy and we should learn from their withdrawing. What shall we do? Shall we do what these others are doing? What shall we do? Let us heed and harken to the Word of God. What does the Word of God say? Compromise? No! Make peace? No! Withdraw? No! The Word of God says 'Stand therefore'. There can be no surrender. There can be no compromise. There can be no peace. 'Stand therefore'.

I want to take these two words and look at them in five ways. First of all I want to look at them as words of argument. Secondly, I want to look at them as words of alignment. Thirdly, I want to look at them as words of judgment. Fourthly, I want to look on them as words of encouragement. Finally, I want to look on them as words of commandment.

'Stand therefore' - An argument. 'Stand therefore' - An alignment. 'Stand therefore' - A judgement. 'Stand therefore' - An encouragement. 'Stand therefore' - A commandment.

First of all, 'Stand therefore' - AN ARGUMENT

Now this argument follows from the two stands that we have in verse 13, 'Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day'.

Note carefully 'the whole armour of God'- the complete armour of God. No piece of that armour not being brought into use. Then the other stand, 'And having done all to stand'. No particle of strength not called into use in the second stand, and then 'Stand therefore'. This stand is the remaining and final stand, having withstood and having continued to stand, then we are to remain standing.

Now this is an argument from experience. The armour of God gives us the enablement to withstand in the evil day. God has given us full and ample provision. He has not sent us to war at our own charges. He has provided for every emergency. He has provided for every avenue of attack. He has provided for every strategy of the Devil. We are not ignorant of the Devil and his devices. And having put on the whole armour of God we have proved that we are invincible and unassailable and impregnable in the day of Satanic onslaught, because the armour is Christ and Christ has conquered the Devil and broken the power of Hell. he hath destroyed him that hath the power of death, that is to say the Devil, and has delivered them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. So in our putting on of the whole armour of God we have found and proved a divine enablement that in the evil day we can withstand all the fiery darts of the wicked one. The onslaught of Hell comes to a standstill when it meets the armour of God. The advancing columns and the regiments [26] and battalions of the pit come to a standstill when they come up against the armour of God. Hell cannot advance when it faces the heavy armoury of Heaven. Hell is driven back when it comes up against the whole armour of God. The gates of Hell shall not prevail against us.

Then, of course, we have the second stand, and this is the stand of complete and total wholehearted dedication. We have done all. Every fibre of our being, every part of our personality, the whole individual - body, soul and spirit - has been thrown into the conflict, and in the total dedication of ourselves to the Lord we have proved that we can stand, having done all we have stood our ground. Not an inch has been surrendered to the enemy. Not one sheaf of the lentil field has been given over to the uncircumcised Philistines. The sword has cleaved to our hands and we have fought courageously, untiringly and unceasingly, and as the sun goes down on the field of battle, having done all we are found at the end of the day still to be standing.

From that experience our text puts forth the argument, 'Stand therefore'.

Christian soldier, as in days past you have withstood, clothed in the armour of God, all the assaults of the enemy, Stand therefore. Christian brother, as you have done all in the past days, mobilising every part of your being to stand in the evil day and in the day of battle, Stand therefore. Let not one thought of compromise or one thought of retreat, or one thought of surrender enter your heart. Experience has proved that you can stand by God's strength, and that you have stood by God's strength, and you can continually stand by God's power.

There is also the argument for preservation. If you do not stand what will happen to you? Eventually you shall be destroyed. The man who compromises, eventually is destroyed. The man who makes peace, eventually is destroyed. The man who withdraws, eventually is destroyed. So there is no way forward, no way to preserve yourself by surrender, by withdrawal or by compromise. Each of these roads will end slowly but surely and certainly in your destruction. Therefore the argument for preservation is that you should stand therefore. Like Esther of old you need to come to the position. Therefore you shall say at the end of the day, 'I will most certainly perish'. Therefore if I perish, I perish, but I will take the road, the road that is a road of risk, the road that seems, from man's arguments, the road of disaster, but I by faith will step out in that road for I have heeded the argument 'Stand therefore'.

Secondly, 'Stand therefore' - AN ALIGNMENT

This is a day when we must align ourselves and declare on what side we are. Moses said, 'Who is on the Lord's side, Let him come unto me', and the sons of Levi came and joined themselves to Moses, outside the camp. They aligned [27] themselves with God's man. They aligned themselves with the Lord in His controversy with His people.

This is a day of controversy. God has a controversy with His people. This is a day when we must take sides. Neutrality is always evil. There is no room in this Book for a neutral position. We must declare ourselves on one side or the other. There can be no halting between two opinions. If God be God, serve Him, If Baal, serve him.

Now, what is our alignment? Are we going to align ourselves with the belligerent, with those who are taking a militant and strong stand against the enemy? Are we going to be among the standers or the shirkers of our day? Are we going to be among the labourers or the loafers in this day? Are we going to be among those that are the forsakers or those that are the stickers of this day?

Billy Sunday used to say that the church needed a baptism of stickability, and certainly the fundamentalists today need a baptism of stickability to stick to the front line, to stick to the battle, to stick to the war, to stick to the conflict, to stick to belligerency against the forces of evil in this evil day.

On what side are we? Stand therefore! Align yourselves with those who have donned the soldier's uniform, with those who have been in the armoury of God and are equipped for conflict even unto the death. Line up in the battle regiments of the most High. Lounge not around the barrack door in the dress suits, but rather put on the garments stained and rolled in blood. Make your way forward to the front line, unsheath your sword, hold up your shield, don your helmet and go forward for God and Christ, counting not the cost.

This Word is a Word of ALIGNMENT.

Today we must put down our names. Today we must declare on whose side we are.

Thirdly, 'Stand therefore' - A JUDGMENT

We shall be judged by our posture in the day of battle. To stand is the very opposite of taking cowardly flight from, or treacherously yielding to the enemy.

When the General sees that his regiment is beginning to shrink before the foe, and he sees that some are ready to flee or to surrender, he then exhorts his men to stand. They have to stand stoutly, bending all their energies in unyielding resistance to the foe. The Bible tells us we have to resist apostasy and remain steadfast in the face of the foe. That is the very purpose of the armour that God provides. Let us remember that this foe who would call us to yield is a cowardly foe. He may set a bold face but his head is broken, his sceptre is smashed, his throne has been toppled and his power is gone. Fear not to fight against this broken headed adversary, for doth the scriptures not tell us 'If we resist the Devil he will flee from us'.

Secondly, a person is judged to be standing when he stands in his own [28] rank and in his proper station, and is not standing in a lawless manner, having surrendered from the rank and become a straggler in his regiment or battalion.

There is a place where I must stand. There is a place where you must stand. Remember of Gideon's three hundred it was written, 'Every man stood in his own place'. In the day of battle there is a ditch to be filled by every soldier of the Cross. I cannot fight the corner of the field that you are commanded to defend. You cannot fight the corner of the field that I am commanded to defend. You must do your military work in the place to which the General has commanded you. I must do my military work in the place where the General has commanded me. We must realise that we have a place and a relation and we must do our duty in that place and in that relation to which God has called us.

Then again we will be judged to be standing when we refuse to give place to sleep or sloth. Standing is a waking, it is a watching posture. When the General sees his men lying secure upon the ground taking rest, asleep, he bids them stand to their arms, he bids them to watch, to be vigilant. In some cases it is death for a soldier to be found asleep, when he has been appointed to stand guard and act as sentinel. Sleep in the place of duty is treachery. To sleep such a sleep deserves death because if he sleeps, the whole army may sleep the sleep of death being overcome by the foe who has taken advantage of a sentinel who has gone to sleep.

One Captain said, 'I found him dead in sleep, and I left him but asleep in death'.

Watchfulness is most needful for the Christian soldier. It was the old Puritan Richard Gurnall who said:

'The saint's sleeping time is Satan's tempting time. Every fly dares venture to creep on a sleeping lion.'

No temptation is so weak but is strong enough to foil a Christian that is napping in security.

Samson asleep and Delilah cuts his locks. Saul asleep and his spear is taken away from his very side, and he never the wiser. Noah asleep and his graceless son has a fit time to discover his father's nakedness. Eutychus asleep, nods, and falls from the third loft, and is taken up for dead. Thus the Christian asleep in security may soon be surprised so as to lose much of his spiritual strength -'the joy of the Lord 'which is his 'strength'; be robbed of his spear, his armour-graces I mean, at least in the present use of them, and his nakedness discovered by graceless men to the shame of his profession. As when Joab could take notice of David's vain glory in numbering the people, was not David's grace asleep. Sleep steels as insensibly in the soul as it doth on the body. Yield not to it. Let us watch and be vigilant, for if sleep overtakes us then there [29] shall overtake us disaster, a disaster which shall have its dark repercussions in the church militant here on earth.

Fourthly, 'Stand therefore'. AN ENCOURAGEMENT

The apostle Paul who wrote these words stands forth as an encouragement to us all. When he says 'Stand therefore', he is encouraging the militant saints of God in their battle for truth and righteousness he says, 'Look at me. Look at what I was. Look at what I have become. Look at what God has enabled me to do'. He would remind us of his trials, troubles, tribulations and afflictions. 2 Corinthians chapter 11, verse 23, 'Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool.) I am more, in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent. In deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes, save one. Twice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck. A night and a day I have been in the deep. In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren. In weariness and painfulness. In watchings often in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I burn not?'

But from the lips of this man who has passed down into the darkest valleys, from the lips of this man who has suffered so many things in his militant stand for the faith once delivered to the saints, there comes this ringing word of encouragement across the gory battlefield, across the blood-stained regiments of the Cross, across the grim and deadly sight of stands that are no longer taken; across the field that has been marked by compromise and shameful surrender, this trumpet blast is heard, 'Stand therefore, my brother, be no discouraged. Lean not on the arm of the flesh. Turn not your eyes upon men. Turn your eyes upon God, for He Who called you to do battle is the God of the battle, and He, Whose soldier thou art, despised the shame and in His naked body hung on Calvary and laid death low, and by dying dealt a deathblow to the minions of the pit. Be encouraged. The darkest night is just before the dawn! The most intense struggle is just before the victory. The saddest hour of the conflict will be dispelled by the joy of triumph. Weeping, dear brother, may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning!'

'Stand therefore'. It is a word of encouragement. Let us strengthen ourselves in the Lord!

Finally, these words 'Stand therefore' are words of commandment.

We are commanded to stand. Jesus Christ from the Throne, surveying the battlefield of this world is calling to each one of us to stand therefore. He knows [30] the part of the battlefield in which He has placed us. He is quite aware of the terrible odds assembling against us. He understands our position. He knows our frame, he remembers that we are but dust, but today He commands us, He commands us to go once again into the thickest of the fray. 'Be not Christians by halfs,' said old Gurnall, 'but go through with it'. The thorough Christian is the true Christian. Not he that takes the field, but he that keeps the field. Not he that sets out, but he that holds out in this holy war deserves the name of a saint. There is not such a thing in this sense belonging to Christianity as an honourable retreat. Not such a word of command in all Christ's military discipline as 'Fall back and lay down your arms'. No, you must follow on and stand to your arms 'till called off only by death itself'.

Yes, brethren, we are under arms and we are under command. We are marching not in retreat, but we are marching forward to confrontation and to conflict. There is no discharge in this war. We cannot stack arms nor will we be called to do so while here below. We have drawn the sword and our General has called us to throw away the scabbard, for there can be no sheathing of that sword until we cross over the River to the Father's House when we will hang our arms upon the walls of God's City and study war no more. Only then shall the spears and swords be turned into implements of agriculture and or harvest. Then shall the spear be made the pruning hook and the sword be made the ploughshare.

But I have seen a Lover, spite of scorn and hate,
Love through an agony of blood and tears;
And ceaseless in His love for e'en His enemies,
Lay down His life, forsaken of the earth and sky,
And, rising, win a bride, and ring the marriage bells!
That Lover is the Lover of my soul;
And I, unto the endless end, like Him,
I too must love!

Jeremiah chapter I verse 19:

"And they shall fight against thee but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee".
